How it Works

Workers2Work is a two-stage program.  In the first phase, Workers2Work provides a “kick-start” vehicle to the nonprofit at no cost.  They select a client who insures the car and leases it at a low weekly rate, based on their ability to pay.  Together with their case manager, they estimate how long it will take the driver to improve their economic situation enough to afford a “forever car.”

During this phase, the nonprofit solicits an investor sponsor, who will lend the driver up to $10,000 at at 5 percent for four years.  Workers2Work guarantees this loan and helps with the repossession and disposition of the vehicle in case of default.

Once they have their forever car, the kickstart car is available for reuse.  The nonprofit maintains contact with the driver until their loan is paid in full.

How we help Ukrainian refugees

Support for Ukrainian refugees

Projekt Ukraine

In the wake of the war in Ukraine, many refugees have sought safety and a fresh start here in the United States. However, building a new life comes with significant challenges, especially without access to reliable transportation. Many Ukrainian refugees arrive with limited financial resources, making it difficult to afford a car—an essential tool for commuting to work, accessing services, and creating stability.

Our organization is dedicated to helping these individuals by providing access to vehicles, enabling them to find employment and begin rebuilding their lives. By supporting Ukrainian refugees, we’re not just giving them a means of transportation—we’re offering them a pathway to independence and hope for a brighter future.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those seeking refuge and opportunity in Austin, Texas, and beyond.

Victoria and Yaro's story

Yaroslav and Viktoria are refugees from Ukraine who arrived in the United States on August 1st. Starting their lives from scratch in a new country proved to be a daunting challenge. Financial struggles made it difficult to afford the essentials they needed to begin rebuilding.

We stepped in to help by providing a loan for a car, giving them the opportunity to commute to work, connect with their community, and establish a sense of stability. Today, they are grateful and excited to be starting a new chapter here in the U.S. With reliable transportation, they’ve taken the first steps toward building a brighter future and integrating into life in Austin, Texas.

Their resilience and optimism inspire us to continue supporting individuals like them as they embark on their journey toward independence and success.

Workers2Work EV

EV cars program

Workers2Work's goal has always been to put 1,000,000 low-wage-earners into reliable cars.

However, the idea of adding that many pollution-creating internal combustion engines on the road has always troubled us.We believed the electric vehicle market has matured to the point that used EVs are the perfect commuter solution for many low wage earners.

The primary obstacle to success is access to electricity. Most apartment dwellers can't simply plug their car into an outside receptacle. We are actively seeking a partner organization that provides low cost housing with access to charging stations.

If your organization fits that description, please follow the link below to inquire about our partnership program.
